KUALA LUMPUR: A study on wages initiated by the Human Resources Ministry, has revealed that almost 34% of about 1.3 million workers earn less than RM700 a month, below the poverty line of RM720 per month.
Its minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said the National Employment Return study last year stressed on the need for wages to be increased, especially after the ministry discovered that it was difficult to rely on market forces alone.
He also cited a World Bank study that found that the wage trend in Malaysia had recorded only an annual 2.6% growth during the past 10 years, compared with the increasing cost of living during the same period.
“The Government agrees that wages will have to be increased,” he told reporters here yesterday.
He said the influx of foreign workers was among several reasons why wages did not increase for the past 10 years.
“Skilled jobs are synonymous with higher wages. However, in many instances, employers do not pay for skills, relying instead on unskilled foreign workers,” he noted.
Dr Subramaniam said he would table his ministry’s proposal on a national minimum wage to the Cabinet by October.
However, he said the ministry had yet to decide if there should be a national, regional or sectoral minimum wage.
There were differing views on the proposal where some felt the implementation of minimum wage would lead to erosion of competitiveness, wage spirals and inability to narrow the gap between the rich and poor, while others felt it would increase productivity and quality of workers. — Bernama

Why are you here in my page ? Well... Maybe You have been tricked to come here .. or just curious what is about this blog. No matter what brings you here, I would like to say :Welcome.

It's quite easy actually.. just take 2 pieces of paper and a pen.
Then in the 1st piece , write about Big dream that you wanna achieve all these time.
Then in the 2nd piece, write about smaller achievement that you wish to achieve in these late years.
Like : Get myself a PS3 in the next 2 year, buy myself a new car, bring my belove family to eat in THE SHIP, buy my parents a new house... etc-etc...

Now.. you are unemployed. How much you think your salary will be?
For a Degree: Usually around RM2000-RM2400
With experience then +Rm 200-Rm300.
But even right now.. You take your degree and go for interview.. you think the employers will hire you ( might without experience) for RM2000 a month ?
If yes then congratulation.
Employers mostly will pay Rm800 - Rm 1300 if I'm not mistaken.
Why ? Is it real ?
Unfortunately .. yes..
Now people supply man-power for job is far more than the market demand.
Never-mind ... Let us calculate your value for every hour you work ok ?

Electric Bill , Streamxy, Water, Indah Water, Cukai Tanah, handphone bill or credit, food and drinks, then some shirt once in a while, maintenance for something that can't last long like Light bulb, Movie Tickets while outing with friends, service your motorcycle, motor fuel, motor license, insurances.. and some other things that i might miss out.
well.. you really need to think about all these... why ?
If the commodities price are keep rising while our Boss only rise RM50 or Rm 100 ( or a bit more) for our salary.
Can you survive that ? If you can ... then I congratulate you once again.
1 more thing. that you should worry about.
This incident happens few times already. Latest was 1997 and 2007. The Financial Crisis. The Whole World is in peril. many company fall to dust If you could recall a few.
Company like Intel will not gone, but the workers will. Will you be one of those get fired during Financial Crisis ? Are you at risk of this ?
If you can survive this coming up 10 years... then can you survive the next 10... and the following ?
Think about it.
